I hated to leave the other reveiw stand alone. Yes cost of living is higher in Southport than say Whiteville or Fayetteville. You do pay a premium to live next to the water, but high in comparison to what? If you buy some inexpensive energy saving equipment, your rate for electricity is about a third less and then in line with most communities. Housing cost are high in the historic district, but the recession has brought many homes into an affordable range. Taxes are cheap compared to most of America. You do pay a seperate Southport tax of .18 that I sometimes wonder what extra services that county residence don't get I'm paying for. I think Southport is a great place to live and worth a few sheckles more.
