SC needs to get off the urban sprawl treadmill

Although recent additions of a commuter bus from the North Charleston area to the peninsula signal some hope for the future, the greater Charleston area in general and Summerville more specifically suffer from an inability to imagine anything but creating just another suburban bedroom community. Yes, there are actually some bike lanes (and even a bike path that goes nowhere) in and around the town, but a culture of aggressive (and oblivious) driving makes biking almost suicidal at times. Likewise, the city council and county seem to have no ability to think about what kind of place they want to create.
