Extremely low taxes mean the road system is substandard. Thousands of new homes are built, but basic road improvements taking 5-10 years for scheduling for even engineering studies. E.g. Warrington and Old Landing Roads, as back roads for drivers avoiding Route 1 during the summer, are gridlocked, too. Residents of the developments along both roads are unable to safely exit during the tourist season. There's very little state police presence and traffic enforcement in the unincorporated areas, as most of Sussex County is. Speeding and tailgating on Route 1 and back roads is the result of this lax enforcement. Older drivers beware.
