Take heed

My husband and I moved from Washington, DC, to Tampa in search of a better way of life and lower cost of living. We found neither. The housing market has exploded to the point where you can't find a decent house without having to commute an hour or more to your job in downtown Tampa. Insurance premiums are increasing due to the heightened hurricane activity and they're only going to get worse, that is if you can find insurance. Salaries have not kept pace with the increased cost of living, and as a result, we're looking to move back north. The summers are unbearable and the threat of hurricanes is stressful. Traffic is ridiculous and the city is filled with horrible drivers. If you have a ton of money to spend on a house and don't mind being in the path of a hurricane's destruction, then Tampa may be the city for you.
On the plus side, the weather is beautiful from mid-October to about mid-May and nice beaches are plentiful.
