Great arts scene

The City of Torrington is making an impressive effort to revitalize its downtown area. The city officials' initiatives are impressive to this end. Torrington has great city leaders who truly care and are interested in returning this old mill town to its glory days. The mayor is young and energetic, and he is also accessible to his constituents.
Culturally, Torrington offers a lot for creative types such as artists, writers, musicians, dancers, etc.
Housing is affordable in Torrington; however, property and other types of taxes are not. And taxes are ever-climbing in the city. Connecticut, in general, has always been an expensive place to live. But the easy accessibility to both NYC and Boston, the beauty of the state and its rich cultural offerings have offset the price one has to pay to live here. Unfortunately, taxes in the more urban areas, such as Torrington, are really increasing. To me, this is extremely concerning and it may end up being a game-changer as to whether I can continue to afford to live here -- or whether I will have to sell my home and move away -- not just from Torrington, but from the state of Connecticut. Time will tell.
