Review of Winhall, Vermont

Vermont wannabees try to down-play wealth in this
Star Rating - 5/10/2008
When shopping for Real Estate in Winhall, the thing that may intitially surprise most metro-suburban buyers from high priced markets is that in this scenic and rural state, where pirces are comparitive bargains, houses aren't cheap. The reason is that most of the owners in this town, didn't grow up here. The town is built on the money of second home owners and retirees, many of whom are escaping their expensive and competitive urban/suburban lives in exchange for the gorgeous countryside, great air and the many outdoor activitities - including several major ski areas in winter. Great views and "rustic chic" are the most valuable real estate attributes here. Most well-off outsiders try to blend in with the natives (of which there are few) although they would probably not want to be mistaken for one. Most introductory converstaions include reference to origins as well as bragging rights as to how many years they've owned a home in Vt. The outdoor oportunities, scenery, climate(except for May)and access to everything material(Manchester shops are only 8 miles away) and a number of good restaurants, make this a natural dream place for folks with money who want to exit the rat race and enjoy the country without feeling like they've become hillbilly's.
