I’ve lived in it for 5 years and throughout it all the people are antisocial and hostile to people different than them.

I guess it's all relative. Sure, Seattleites seem icy and distant compared to, say, the people of Wyoming or the Mid West, but compared to New Englanders, Seattleites are in-your-face friendly. I spent a decade in New England, so I know what truly rude and miserable people are (the region itself, though, is outstanding).
