Review of Weed, California

Inexpensive rent with high gas cost and rural livi
Star Rating - 6/9/2008
We moved to Siskiyou County from the Bay Area, thinking that having survived the harsh life of the city, we could relax in northern California. However, this is a place for many retirees, which makes the place difficult for young people. Both my boyfriend and myself are in our mid twenties and college educated. We have struggled living here, having a shared annual income of $22,000. There are very few jobs, though there are many inexpensive rental units available. It is easy to find a place to live, but extremely difficult to even find a minimum wage job that agrees to pay you 40 hours a week. Even in the local paper and at the local workforce connection, there are an average of less than ten jobs posted weekly. This is a place that seems inexpensive, though is very expensive to live, gas right now is $4.75 at the pump - 6/8/08 and the average drive to just get groceries is a minimum of five miles if not more. There are many remote, beautiful hiking locations and camping spots, but to drive out to these places is costly, and to simply drive into the 'big' cities, is an average 20 mile drive (if not more).
