Review of Somersworth, New Hampshire

Take it from a Resident...
Star Rating - 6/7/2023
Please note, the previous rating of one star was given by a non-resident of our city. I will not get into the politics of the city management as they did, all towns have their political issues. But I will give my opinion of my experience of living in this small little city.
I am a young professional raising children in the city of Somersworth. Our community is centrally located to have access to all the recreation of the White Mountains or the Atlantic Sea beaches and Great Bay within 30-40 Min. For more cultural and city experiences Boston or Portland are only about 1 hr- 1.5 hrs away. While the surrounding towns are growing and becoming more cost prohibitive our town still maintains its small town charm and affordability. The teachers of our community are incredible!! They go above and beyond to ensure that our children are gaining enriching ezperiences and every other week we get letters from our children's schools letting us know of what the children are learning, and of upcoming lessons, and events. The teachers in our district don't stay for the pay. They stay because of our community support and spirit.
Our public library has many programs offered for families. And every year the town hosts a Children's festival.
I would like for our downtown to be more walker friendly but this will take some creativity, time, and money. In the 18 years we have lived in this town the improvements we have seen far outweigh the "decline".
With the addtion of restaurants that others (from outside our town) travel to experience and other small businesses trending toward revitalization we have hope and see progress in our downtown. Many young families are not only buying thier first homes here but, liking it so much, are deciding to make these homes their family homes.
In our surrounding are there are nature trails and a kayak launch on the Salmon Falls river which has been proven to be clean and helathy by our own 7th grade scientists as part of their curriculum.
In the neighborhood that we live in, there are many friendly people who will stop often to chat with each other. During the winter months there is a local sledding hill, a neighborhood holiday get together, and last year a large group of CAROLERS that grew as it travelled around to homes of neighbors who were elderly or new. (Come on, really? Yes, We are that place.) And it's not just our neighborhood.

Somersworth is a town filled with citizens who all take pride in building our little city up. I am happy to do so, here, in just little way so that nay sayers who have no stake, don't live here, and may have more to gain by tearing a place down, can be refuted.
I give 4 stars instead of 5 because there is always room to grow.

Failing town on a hill
This is a sad little town that used to be inhabitated by a majority of French Canadians ...
