The police comment is completely ridiculous. I know numerous officers on the force and they go out of their way to be helpful. They are polite, pleasant, and firm in the face of lawbreaking. If you ran afoul of the law, it was likely for a good reason. I take offense at the "not the place for any cultured people to live". I have a Master's degree and come from a very cultured background, and would gladly choose to settle in Columbia any day, along with the many other fine people who call it home.
