I have lived in Dearborn my entire life (approaching 30 years...not too happy about that upcoming birthday) and have had dogs my entire life. True none of the forty-something large parks allow dogs, but with the exception of Crowley park (west of Telegraph) as long as you clean up after your pet and don't let it run loose and attack children at play no one ever complains or tells you to leave. My two dogs and I go out around the west end twice a day totaling anywhere from 6-10 miles each day for the last 7 years at least, and not once in my entire life has anyone ever scowled at me for having them out in public or asked me to leave any public area, including the coffee shops and outdoor patios we frequent to catch up with friends or stop for a water/newspaper break. It pains me to hear all of these awful reviews about a town I have pounded the pavement on for decades. Yes we have a heavy elderly population, but if you clean up after your dog and maybe say a polite hello like a good neighbor (it may be a shock to see good manners as a nice perk) the elderly are quite nice to have around. As for safety this town is superb. The police force has one of the best response times than most cities around us and out a way (this includes the precious so-called coveted areas others have mentioned) I am a midnight worker so one of my two/day walks with my dogs occurs between the hours of midnight and 6am... I have never had a problem (with the exception of one neighbors dog that got out) I have never been approached, never been attacked, never had a run in with any stray dogs... and we pretty much walk the entire West end of the town 5-7 days a week year round. So I welcome you to move to Dearborn and bring your beloved pooches, we hope to see you around :)
