Paradise lost!
Star Rating - 7/29/2020
Boy, has this once beautiful town changed...for the worse! I initially moved here 20 years ago because the people were so nice, no traffic, great choice of hospitals, excellent restaurants, a terrific university, post graduate schools including a medical, dental, pharmacy and law school, beautiful beaches....everything you would want in a town! Forget it now! At one time, you could drive from one beach to another beach (Isle of palms, Sullivans, Folly, Kiawah and Seabrook) in less than 1/2 hour...now it takes more than an hour! And there was never any traffic! It was pure paradise. You could drive downtown Charleston for a casual stroll down the harbor or get a bite on King Street...no more! Traffic and parking is a nightmare! Thank you investors, builders, developers and our town council for destroying the last paradise on earth just for more money in your pockets! I hope you can sleep at night because I can't! I am disgusted at what you turned this town into....you should all be ashamed of yourselves!

No kidding! I grew up in the area, and the growth in the past decade is absolutely disgusting. The growth in the Upstate is terrible, too, but at least there's room to modify the infrastructure. The Lowcountry is fragile, as evidenced by the reports of increased flooding due to the increase of pavement and loss of forests. Everyone wants to move to the Lowcountry because it's pretty in pictures, and then they complain about the traffic, the bugs, the heat, and the reptiles. Anyone thinking of moving here should take a long walk in the Francis Marion or the ACE Basin on a sunny day in August. If that's not for you, move inland!

I agree, also have grown up in Va. Beach, and lived in Charleston, Sc for 20 years like yourself. I also think it has gone downhill over the last years, actually all people think this that have lived here for a while like 20 years or more....it's sad, no more local southern feelin anymore, too many people from New Jersey and New york......

Most places are changing for the worse, due to wage inequality, and too many rich people creating mass inflation.

I grew up there in the 50's and 60's. It was wonderful, no tourism. You could still see all the church steeples as you crossed the Ashley River bridge. Now the view from California Dreaming is depressing. The politicians gave in to the rule that use to exist that restricted the height of buildings to not block the historic skyline.

So you moved to a town because you liked it and now you're upset because other people moved to your town because they liked it and it's crowded? You are part of your own problem.
