My wife and I lived in Glendale for 35 years and were very happy in the community for the largest portion of that time. The community was very friendly, for the most part, and convenient for us. Since we lived in the hills in the Emerald Isle neighborhood, we were separated from the downtown city environment by a number of miles. Instances of crime and police activity were very rare up until the time we moved away. We didn't leave Glendale as much as we left California as a whole. Crime, homelessness, extreme political turmoil and the increasing costs of living in Cali drove us out. Since I was born in L.A. and lived my whole life in SoCal, I was extremely distressed seeing its slow descent into mediocrity. Although we still own our home there, we are increasingly concerned about the safety and security of retaining it in ever increasing crime and reduction of police staffing in surrounding cities. We left Cali in 2020 for Prescott, Arizona. Couldn't be happier here! It's like what SoCal used to be 50+ years ago. People actually wave to you on the street and you can always strike up a conversation standing in line at the local Walmart or Lowes. We will always cherish our past lives in Glendale, but, we will never move back unless some really big political and social changes occur there very soon.
