Review of Southport, North Carolina

Southport, NC
Star Rating - 4/4/2008
Southport is a great place to live if you can stand the cost of living. Housing prices are high, taxes are high, and utilities are expensive. The city of Southport is also the electricity provider and it is much more expensive than electricity in surrounding communities. Even homeowners insurance is high because Southport is located on the coast. We have lived in Southport for the last six years, but will consider moving when we retire because of the high cost of living.

To Rick in N.H. Thanks for the update, I was born and raised in Rochester, N.H. but left when I was about 20 yrs. old. I have been in Greenville S.C. area for 31 years and planning to move in the next 1-2 yrs. to N.C. Have not been happy in S.C. for the last 10 years. Just a thought, you could always sell your piece of land before building and move to a less expensive state.

With all due respect, you should try living in the wonderful various regions in New Hampshire, Mike. No income or sales tax. Though your 2000 SF house there will cost you about 75,000 more here, and your property taxes will cost you in the 8000.00 a year range. Your electricity will cost you, about 19 cents a KW. You will need more cloths, about 600.00 to register a fairly new car, for one year, Your heating cost will exceed your entire electric bill alone. Add in a pair of snow tires, a snow blower, or 40.00 a storm to plow your driveway, x an average of 12 times a year. You may view your current cost differently. If we didn't just purchase a piece of property to build our last home on, we could do a home swap.
