Review of Wilson, North Carolina

Run far away as possible from the City of Wilson.
Star Rating - 10/25/2019
I grew up close to Wilson, attended college at Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College. Back in my college days, Wilson had a lot of great places to go eat, shop, and enjoy the surrounding areas. It has drastically gone downhill since that time. The city government does not maintain the streets, the downtown is disgustingly bad with no relevant business except for the county and city government. The only good thing about the city government is Greenlight, which is the internet service by the city utilities. The streets are a disaster and need repaving, lots of bumps and potholes everywhere. The BB&T Towers are going to be torn down and replaced with a Family Y. That was part of a land swap to allow the bank to build a new office building and demolish the old buildings which were built in the 1970s. Nothing wrong with the old buildings. The land swap was supposed to create a downtown park which is adjacent to the library. There was no public discussion about the Family Y and citizens have absolutely no say in the matter. The mayor has been in office for a very long time and the city council does not change members very often either. There is the Wallis Simpson Park which is in a bad area anyway and nothing but ugly junk from some old man who created windmills from junk years ago. An old porn theater downtown, which happens to be beside the courthouse(I am not making this up) is not a cultural center. Crime is bad and if you have a breaking and entering at your house, and burglary, the police won't write the report without having your house condemned. They do that to keep from reporting the property crime. Lots of black gang activity, lots of illegal aliens, high crime are par for the city. It is nothing to see drunks walking down the street drinking even in good neighborhoods, some even passed out on the porches of other people's houses while the police ignore it. Nightlife? There is none. Good paying jobs, very little exist here. If you are white and live in a mixed neighborhood, the black city employs will harass you about your property. Drugs, prostitutes, gangs, does not make for a good city environment.
