Review of Ramona, California

Great little community in the Valley of the Sun
Star Rating - 7/29/2023
Ok, Ramona is a small country town that has its history in Poultry and Cattle. Those days are long gone…….kinda.
We still have lots of open spaces between living development and enough shopping to keep you here should you need Ie 2 major grocery stores, some discount groceries and too many Mexican restaurants. Yes we have fast food, auto mechanics, and a Kmart that closed a few years back and yet to be reoccupied
We have a strong working bedroom community here. A lot of military, police, & fire dept that raise their family’s. Schools are decent and even though many kids leave and go off to college, surprisingly most swear they will come back and raise their kids here. That says a lot
Believe it or not, kids stay a little younger here, longer. Which is kinda cool. People take time to talk to you and look you in the eye. Yes there’s crime, drugs and a few rehab facilities here……but nothing is crazy off the charts. We’re about 45 minutes from downtown San Diego. 35 minutes from Escondido, 25 from Poway. Everything and more you could ask for shopping wise, is within reach. Everything
The beach is 50-60 minutes
Weather: we have 4 seasons. Winter can get down to freezing, fall is fall, Summers are HOT. I joke but when I say we’re a suburb of Palm Springs…..it’s hot. The best part is we get a marine influence at nite and it cools down 25 degrees. So, air con is off mostly at nite.
We are chaparral brush land and that means fires. Always on the lookout but since the Cedar and Witch creek fires, local fire authorities have their act together and hit fires early and hard. Air tankers fly out of Ramona airport and helicopters are on it fast.
Earth quakes believe it or not DONT affect us badly as Ramona is a geological rock fortress. We are a valley of rocks literally and our ground is crazy stable
So, this small town has so much going for it. Friendly people, great churches, a strong music scene, and wineries ……and lastly we’re the Valley of the Sun. When San Diego, is under a blanket of fog all summer. We’re not
We have a lot of sun which means plenty of outdoor recreation. Hiking, Mtn Biking, gardening and BBQ’s.
It’s not perfect…..but it’s pretty damn great community about an hr from San Diego gas lamp and seaport village
