I have spent most of my life in very large cities. I moved to Aberdeen just about 7 years ago. I really like it. We have the ocean, the mountains, rivers, gorgeous sunny cool Summers, rainy windy romantic Winters by the fireplace, no traffic, no congestion, cool old houses, a small town atmosphere, Olympia only a few minutes away, what more could anyone want?
If you just drive through Aberdeen on the way to the beach, you are only seeing it's "backside". Take any road, up, an into the neighborhoods away from the water, and you will love it.
Many people are starting to move into town from out of town, and out of state, buying up the old houses, fixing them up, and spending money in town. These are very good signs.
Even downtown is coming back. Thrift and antique shops & coffee houses are popping up along Wishkah near Broadway. These are signs of disposable income being thrown around, not of poverty and decay.
Go drive past the magnificently restored D&R Theatre, look at that dazzling neon marquee, and tell me Aberdeen has no future, I dare you!
