I retired in Montrose because I found a situation that was doable for me financially. I agree that the 'Con Aspect' is a problem in all of Colorado's small towns that are economically depressed. This might contribute to the unfriendliness. I have also been told that the locals do not want people coming in. What happens with this attitude is lack of jobs. The cost of living is high for the pay grade. Most people in professions such as mechanic or construction are payed 1/2 of similar jobs in Denver. Utilities are high. I pay 50.00 a month over my usage costs just for the privilege of having service. In my mind, this is unreasonable. On the positive side, I am living in some of the most beautiful country in Colorado. It would be hard to make positive change in Montrose without the Gov. making an effort to do so.
