Review of Fanwood, New Jersey

A Great Little Town
Star Rating - 7/1/2008
We are transplanted New Yorkers and this is our second NJ town in five years (Bogota was the first and it was not for us).
We chose Fanwood because of its proximity to NYC and all it has to offer in terms of culture and recreation. We decided to pass up the pricer town of Westfield. Fanwood is less than a three minute drive to downtown westfield and shares their public schools with Scotch Plains. There are many New Yorkers in Fanwood and the surrounding areas which is a plus when looking to have something in common with your neighbors. There is a train directly to NYC as well as bus service to the city. Housing is still affordable....in terms of realty in the tri-state area and the houses are not on top of one another. You actually get more for your money is Fanwood than in Westfield. The schools are great and the town is quaint and traditional. The downtown area is undergoing revitalization, but has yet to expand with original shops/retailers. Downtown Westfield is so close and filled with speciality and high end shops you never have to go to the mall. If you do have to make an occasional trip then the Short Hills Mall can't be beat! The one true downside to this quaint community is the ever so high taxes! That's politics in NJ and it might never change unless people decide to take a stance!
