Review of Parachute, Colorado

Not what you would expect.

In my opinion, the Parachute area is not that great. There is nothing to do anywhere near here. I moved out here thinking I could just drive to Denver now and then to see a show or go to a museum, but thats not the case. In the winter, the expressway that connects us to Denver is freqently shut down. And as for a culture here, there isn't any. When a lot of people think of Colorado they think of prestine lakes and beautiful mountain views. Well, we don't have either. There are no lakes in parachute, and for the mountain views, well, they are blocked by the massive oil wells that dot the landscape here. Garfeild county has the most oil wells in the state. And renting is another facter. In the year that I have lived here, the rent at my apartment has increased to more than a hundred and fifty dollars more than when I moved here. You could rent a nice little apartment in Boston for what I pay for a one bedroom in the middle of nowhere Colorado.

Parachute is definitely not a metropolitan area...I think that's why people live here - if you want Denver, live in Denver!! Oh and the expressway between here and Denver goes over two mountain passes up to 10,000+ elevation - so in winter it will shut down for snow from time to time(usually only a delay). There are multiple lakes and ski resorts within a 1-2 hours of Parachute, so you have easy access to these great attractions without the tourists! I also will add, this is an outdoorman's paradise - whitewater rafting, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc. is all at your backdoor. I agree, there are gas/oil rigs, but the view is hardly obstructed. If you knew all the great things this industry offers to the community, you wouldn't mind so much. I would say that this is probably not a great place for singles, but this is a nice place to raise a family and have quality time together.
