Review of Traverse City, Michigan

Northern Michigan
Star Rating - 8/16/2017
I've lived here my whole life. As the cost of living is getting totally out of control, wages suck. Employers bitch because they can't find employees for $8.50 per hour, when rent is $900 to $1200 for a one bedroom apt. So lots of jobs if you want to live under a bridge. Car insurance is THE MOST EXPENSIVE IN THE COUNTRY!! As Michigan continues to be a no-fault state. From May to November, we are over run with tourists, a typical 30 min drive to get home, turns into an hour+. In July, as a resident of Leelanau or Grand Traverse County, you truly wish you could just stay home so you don't have to deal with the horrible traffic. I used to love it here. It really sucks now!! Oh yeah, it's pretty here:0

I couldn't agree with his review more. In fact, I could have written it myself. Was born in Traverse City, family moved away for military service, came back here in fourth grade, it was a wonderful place, late 70s. Left again when family moved downstate and finished growing up there. 17 years ago I moved back to TC, thinking it would be "home" again, having so many wonderful memories from childhood. Moved back in 2001 and it wasn't too bad. But in the past decade it has really changed. Retirees from downstate are moving up here in droves and acting like it's always been their town. They drive like they're the only ones on the road or as if they own the damn road. People constantly pull out in front of you on main thoroughfares, drive drunk, and act like there's no tomorrow. Every time I have to go out I have an average of two near-hits with some idiot who doesn't car about anyone else on the road. People move here and have no idea how use their headlights when the weather is less than par, and even during whiteout conditions. A lot of people who have moved here not friendly, which has really changed the town I used to know where people knew each other more. It's overcrowded, the traffic is congested and non-stop day and night, commutes are horrible. The housing and rent costs have gone through the roof. Tourists come here and are some of the rudest people. I'm looking to get out of here.
