I moved to Ocala in 2003. In my opinion, Ocala is very well located, in between the Gulf beaches and the Atlantic coast, and close to important cities like Gainesville, Tampa, Orlando, Saint Augustine, Daytona, and Jacksonville, all of them very different. It's a peaceful area with lots of outdoor activities to enjoy, such as lakes, rivers, and trails. The roads are in great condition and there are amazing scenic views everywhere. The living cost is low. These are some of the reasons why Ocala area is developing in all directions. Therefore, families from everywhere are moving to Ocala and there are many adult active living communities, as well.

Obviously terrible for you. Why did you choose it? Is the problem Ocala or research and decision skills? It is a great small city with manageable traffic, affordable housing, mild to warm climate. A great place to retire and a great place for service and medical-related jobs that serve the older folk.

Marion is one of the poorest counties in Florida, thusly the funds to keep roads, services and amenities up is very limited. Several roads are a mess, library is way underfunded, hospitals are ranked low for care and cleanliness and crime is on the rise greater than many other areas nearby. Just in the four years we have lived here, we have seen a serious decline in the quality of life here. Although we are not dependent on the job market, we do see great issues with the service at businesses in the area. Sad because I've been told that this used to be a "nice" place to live.
