Community attitudes matter.

I am originally from Greencastle, Indiana, a nice friendly rural town and home to DePauw University. Presently, I live in West Lafayette, Indiana, due to my having been in college when I moved up here; I was hoping to continue then transfer to Purdue University and finish earning a baccalaureate. What I found was an area of the state that is very unfriendly, economically depressed, prejudiced towards anyone with a different culture. The area accepts people that will embrace their culture and ideas. I have been in different areas of this nation and have never been in such a closed minded locale. Personally, I do not recommend anyplace in Tippecanoe to someone that is not a native of this county. The entire area boasts that it is one of, if not the greatest place in Indiana; do not believe it, with the attitude that persists here, it is one of the worst. For college students that want technical programmes look to Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, a much better place and you will be respected more. If language or other liberal arts programmes are what you want try DePauw in Greencastle or Indiana State University in Terre Haute or for women that prefer an all female campus St. Mary of the Woods. I hope to be moving by next summer back to my area of the state to finish attaining a baccalaureate. It is never a good thing to see that a community is a place to avoid like the plague, but the West Lafayette/ Lafayette area definitely falls into that catagory.
