Review of Dove Creek, Colorado

Living in Rural South West Colorado
Star Rating - 2/20/2011
Dove Creek is a very small rural town in South West Colorado. There is lots of productive farmland land with great space, with an abundant water supply in an area with lots of sun and wind energy. Good soil for growing food. There is also abundant wood for fires and lots of game. And a large variety of summer and winter activities in a general area that attracts millions of visitors year round from all over this world.
The area attracts people who enjoy to create their own environment completely voluntarily and with a self-determined, self sufficient, sustainable operating basis. Our “civilization” glorifies the created end of the scale – Politicians, Bankers, Hollywood, media, TV, BMWs, Mansions, Starbucks, the very best drugs, the very best straight jackets laughingly called “modern education".
We are close to Arches National Park, Canyon lands National Park, Mesa Verde (Cliff dwellings and location of oldest known civilization in America),
Monument Valley, Grand Canyon a few hours away, Telluride.

We are out on the plateau in the middle of farm lands and rolling hills with 360 degree views and can see 5 different mountain
ranges. I wanted to be on the plateau looking at mountains rather than in the Mountains looking at the plateau. Plus
mountain building can be a stability factor as the Rockies are relatively new. The plateau has been stable for millions of years – like a raft on the Earth’s core.
Researched information of the town differs slightly from your information - and I don't know which one is more accurate: As of 2009, Dove Creek's population is 710 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 1.86 percent.
The median home cost in Dove Creek is $68,920. Home appreciation the last year has been -2.60 percent.
Compared to the rest of the country, Dove Creek's cost of living is 18.21% Lower than the U.S. average.
Dove Creek public schools spend $5,793 per student. The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $6,058. There are about 13 students per teacher in Dove Creek.
As of the census[7] of 2000, there were 698 people, 285 households, and 202 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,322.5 people per square mile (508.5/km²). There were 326 housing units at an average density of 617.7/sq mi (237.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.28% White, 1.86% Native American, 0.29% from other races, and 1.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.87% of the population.
