Review of Salisbury, Maryland

Climate
Star Rating - 10/14/2007
Regarding the comfort index, perhaps i sort of agree on that. Salisbury is pretty much a comfortable place to live in terms of lifestyle, convenience and very very low crime rate, violent crime is such a rarity. The only crimes i think that people are concerned here are shooting deers out of season, that's all i can think of. The only thing i don't like about this area is the erratic climate. There is no gradual transition in the change of weather. Summertime can get really hot and can drastically get so cold near summer' end.

Having retired to the area a few years ago, I would disagree with almost everything the writer of "climate" said. There is a very high rate of all kinds of crime, and for a small town a lot of murders. And while it is true that spring doesn't last long, and it becomes hot very quickly, falls are stunning and last into early December. The climate and cost of living are the best things about life here. With only about two to three months of real winter with only a few inches of snow that melts quickly, and two or three months of high heat, the remaining 6-8 months are very temperate. The area however, to this retire, and many I have spoken to is very disappointing. There is almost nothing to do, few decent restaurants, and allergies are very bad with the farms, pollen, etc. While the coasts on the peninsula are lovely, there is really no other culture to speak of. This is a really backward area, unfriendly to what they call "come heres". As another reviewer said, there are few white-collar jobs but worse, any jobs there are are very limited to outsiders. Developers seem to be the only ones friendly to seniors. From the taxes to senior servies, there is little here to support the huge influx of retirees. Traumatic as moving is at this stage of life, I plan to relocate as soon as possible to a place more friendly to seniors, more cultured, and welcoming where I can find something to do.

To Anah: I have JUST the place for you. Ever hear of Venice, Florida? Venice LOVES retirees and has an amazing beach. Right up the road is Sarasota for your cultural needs and there is plenty to do for retirees all over SW Florida. It's literally Retiree Heaven.
