Village of Fearrington
Star Rating - 5/7/2007
Fearrington Village is a community within the area of Pittsboro, NC, that has grown over the past twemty-five years to an unincorpoated village with a population in the range of 2000 that has drawn residents from all over the United States. These are mainly retirees formerly from all sectors of work and the professions, some retired, some still involved in careers. The community consists of townhomes, single family homes on wooded lots, and types of dwellings based on English "closes." The weather is mild and temperate throughout the year with some elevations in the summer, but, on the whole there is little or no snow during the winter months. Spring comes early with the bluebirds and flowers. The village is built around a community center consisting of excellent small specialty shops, a fully stocked book store, where well-known authors lecture and present their latest works. There is a community "gathering place," where community activities are held regularly, particularly, the meetings of the many clubs and groups that draw their membership from the community. There is a "four diamond" Fearrington Inn which boasts a well known and established chef and and upscale menu. There is also a village restaurant which schedules service throughout the week. Residents are within a short driving distance to Chapel Hill, the home of the University of North Carolina with its cultural and medical facilities. The gothic campus of Duke University at Durham is under thirty minutes away which offers one of the best medical and academic centers in the country. Excellent highways bring the Raleigh-Durham International Airport within 30 miles and the routes north and south are easliy available. Shopping choices for groceries and other items are all within short distances. Housing costs are modest compared to areas of the country like California and the Northeast, and taxes are bearable for the middle class wage earner, retired individual or professional. The village also has a unique volunteer organization known as, "Fearrington Cares" which has a part-time registered nurse and volunteers from the community who are available to drive individuals to medical appointments.
