I lived in Doyle, California for several years recently. The outlying area has great outdoor opportunities for camping, hunting, fishing, etc. in this Great Basin spot. You will need to drive 45 mins either north or south to grocery shop, get medical treatment, entertainment, pet care, etc., however, there is a nearby Dollar Store. The only business in Doyle proper is a bar with a cool owner/bar tender. The bar, The Buck Inn, has a great outside area that is perfect for summer relaxation. There is no tourist housing in Doyle or nearby, so secure a room in either Reno or Susanville. Reno is preferable.
