Review of Manti, Utah

Right in between 3 and 4 stars.

My family moved here when I a kid in 1985. The Postman rode a bike with a basket on the front to deliver mail. Main Street was rarely busy. The Population then was approximately 2,100. A new three bedroom 1300 sq. ft. home costed about 30k dollars. 2020 population: 3,300. Price of that same 1,300 sq. ft. home: 150k to 200k dollars. Average income is around 30k annually. Many people must commute for work. I had to commute 100 miles round trip for work. There are few places to rent here; of those, a house can be pricey. There are about a half dozen small two bedroom duplexes in Manti. Their monthly rent approaches about $900.00. Building lots are nearly full; except for the fairly recent subdivision outside Manti City proper, but they are priced quite high. At this time, the only one I can see available in town is a .75 acre lot for $80,000. By comparison; my parents lot was $4,000 in 1992, and I bought one for $8,000 in 1996, and one for $12,000 in 1999. I sold both shortly after purchase for a small profit. Now, I couldn't afford to buy another lot or especially a house. My wife and I rent a duplex, and thankfully we moved in before rent nearly doubled. Manti is a beautiful place to live, it's in a mountain valley at 5,600 feet elevation. Winters are cold; but over the last 20 years, there has rarely been snow on the ground that exceeded 12'' deep. Summer day temperatures are often well above 80°F. For a month or so, beginning around June, we get afternoon thunder storms that come up from the Gulf of California's monsoon season, although some years they are minor if not at all. They haven't come for the last several years, which has resulted in 2 to 3 months with no rain. On the upside; there are beautiful mountains and canyons 1/2 mile to the east, and 2 miles to the west. You can drive or ride ATV's to the top of the mountains, which go to an elevation of 10,000 feet on the east mountain. There are several reservoirs throughout the mountains and valley that are stocked with fish, mainly Trout I believe. Of course, the Mormon Church is the dominant religion. Which if you're not, may or may not cause a few problems, but overall they're just like anybody else in a small community. You just may not be in on what's going on in town as much. Otherwise, I really like it here.

I only know the general area, but this is a balanced and thorough review, which gave a good feel for the area.
