Review of Waldport, Oregon

I traveled 9 countries, worked at 9 different corporations, most people that I have encountered belonging to the environment surrounding by investment banking or the Wall Street.
There is no stock exchange market in the West coast except for Sanfrancisco Bay area. You can imagine how different is Oregon coast and CA.
There are only 2000 people living in Waldport, OR. My neighbor couple are moving down there from Portland Metro area, they would like the coast for retirement life.
I visited the Depoe Bay twice last year, it was excited to watch whales with naked eyes but I don't have to go every year.
The summer is great due to the sea breeze is keeping the sunny day very cool. But, no place serving great food and too crowded when people went out for dinner.
As the matter of fact, some restaurant closed down because the Fall/Winter/Spring are usually quiet , but the traffics were seen bumper to bumper for Summer during my last visit.
The cost of living is not very low because the businesses have to pay rent for the whole year around. You will find a lot of single man and woman household, some are wealthy and well-off but a big portion could be living on retirement savings or even government welfare. Many singles are living by themselves and the available rental residential is as high as 20%.
There are good school systems and school bus provided if you are living within a big town that the bus can reach.
I will choose to go Newport and Lincoln Cities just for retirement since there are people and food around. I can drive school bus and become a driver if I wanted to. Just keep in mind the traffic going in and out during summer time can be frustrating. Don't expect ride share (Uber) to be available, the darkness can be tough for driving at night so I found people went out dinner as early as 3-4pm. Lucky if you can find a McDonalds in Waldport.

I find Waldport beautiful and peaceful. People are friendly and welcoming. We have clean beaches and they aren't over crowded (I hope they stay that way) It is a different life style, definitely not the city. We don't have many restaurants, a few more South and North of us but nothing like Portland or Seattle, but we have great sunsets and clean air and fresh fish and crab and you can go on hikes or walk the beach. I find it absolutely beautiful when you cross the bridge going South, so green and lush. There is no shopping here really : ( Its really the perfect place to be and even better if you have someone to share it with.

It’s weird how you review yourself then list the ways Waldport is not like the “big city”. Waldport isn’t for everyone, although it’s one of the best places I’ve seen, and experienced.

No, there is no McDonalds in Waldport, and I hope there never will be. Waldport is a fishing town. It is a place where you can take your family to one of the many beaches and enjoy with no one else is around. Tourists visit the beaches and then drive to Newport for lodging, which is great. I don't agree with the above weather ratings. We get weeks of summer weather where it's above 80. Waldport is a diamond in the rut. City folks don't like it here because the only enternainment is nature, and we are glad they don't like it. Our children are respectful. If they are not doing school activities, they are hunting or fishing. It is not cold foggie and windy like Cresent City. Our sheriff has the resources to keep crime down, so criminals don't like it here either. We keep our window open every night so we can hear the ocean and smell the freash air. I love living in Waldport.
