Review of Waldport, Oregon

Waldport is Beautiful, but
Star Rating - 1/21/2011
Waldport Oregon and the surrounding area are beautiful if you have your own income and don't need to work for a living. I came here to be near aging parents as well. The area is probably the most beautiful I have ever seen. The mountains meet the sea here, and the air is clean. The water here ranges from good spring water to salty and sulfuric. There are very good people here, and also some very low income people here. The services the community provides to help people are amazing. I discovered some of the wonderful community services after my income dropped by first half, then a quarter, then to zero as my job prospects faded and my savings depleted. I realize this is partially due to the economy everywhere dropping in the past 10 years or so. The Keady Center in town has a generous food bank where if you income qualify you can get free food once a month. They also give out free used clothing, furniture and appliances that work. There are also fine community service organizations, like the Lions Club, etc. that help people with glasses, hearing aids and such. But I want to work and be able to buy my own and choose my own, and be able to help my children or others when I want to instead of be the one asking for help. So I hope that my home will be almost worth what I bought it for so I can sell it and move to someplace where we I can start over and have some prospects for a more self sufficient future. Most of the people who do well here are retired with a good retirement income so they can afford to shop at the small local stores or travel to the bigger cities with more competition to shop. After 12 years I have come to the conclusion that I will come back to visit this beautiful place, but I have come to realize that I can't afford to live here anymore.
