Wow, I think you got the complete list of negatives and not much else. (I've lived here 30 years for comparison). But moving anywhere outside of DC and saying it's a horrible place to live based on traffic is unfair, because that's life working in DC and living ANYWHERE outside of DC.
Traffic in Frederick is rough around rush hour, and gets worse as you go toward DC. Otherwise, it's totally fine.
There's some truth in some of the other things you say, and although crime happens, it is very low. Homelessness is present in the downtown area, but not worse than big cities. Housing is expensive because it's a DC bedroom community. But the downtown is one of the tops in the nation: historically preserved, lots of locally owned variety shops, restaurants that people travel to dine at, many free activities and concerts throughout the year. There is a nearby National Park (Catoctin Mountain) with great hiking, several beautiful state parks, some with swimming lakes, world-class mountain biking trails, etc. You can go for a short drive and be "in the country" or walk the streets of downtown Frederick without feeling like you're in a huge city. And we have all the major chain stores and restaurants that everyplace else does. Frederick is a little expensive, but it's a great place to live.
