Review of Warren, Ohio

Good place to visit
Star Rating - 8/4/2020
Was born here, am a retired senior and snow bird living most winters in the south usually return to Warren area in summer months to reunite with remaining family and friends, can no longer tolerate the brutal winters. When I graduated their was around 80,000 people here and it was once a bustling little town, the population is more like a small city or large, rusty, old, troubled town. Much has taken a hit since the glory days, but their are still reasons to visit, and things to see & experience, but it is more of a place to visit then, to settle down in or raise a family. Warren has become a festival city where during summer months you can experience the splendor of many of the multiple ethnic communities in Warrens court house square. The square downtown is the heart of the city, which maintains most of it's historical victorian facade, the old architecture is a treat. Wine tasting is a thing now, many upscale winerys have opened doors and even upscale condos and townhouses are in planning stages near courthouse square. Warren has been a home for many famous musicians of various genres, many interesting places such as Dave Growl alley, river rock on the amp, packard music Hall, the newly renovated Robbins Theatre are becoming staples. There is plenty of museums such as National Packard car museum, lots for auto buffs & enthusiasts. Harriet Taylor Upton & Sutliff Museums, (abolitionist & suffragette movement). Multiple Art museums, and a variety of parks and recreation available. Warren has become more of an urban climate, but 15 minutes drive north or west of the city then you might be sharing a road with horse and buggies, many Amish and mennonite communities have made the outlying communities home and it is a cool experience and diversion. The central location is also ideal, 1 hr. drive from Cleveland, 1 1/2 Hr. from Pittsburg, 1 or two tanks away from NYC, Chicago, Niagara Falls etc. Also athletic programs have and continue to be dynamic in Warren which has produced some of the best in almost every sport. Just a few things off my head, yeah neat place to visit, lots of great people here, just maybe not safest with a climate similar to Youngstown which is still trying to brush away it's "crime city," rep, stay alert & focused, be careful!
