Beautiful Small Town with Limited Opportunities
Star Rating - 9/22/2022
I was born and raised in Morehead, KY. I’m 49 and have lived in Morehead the entire time. It is one of the most beautiful places with lots of nature to enjoy. Cave Run Lake is stunning and there are many hiking trails. It is very much a small town with many residents having lived in the area most or all of their lives. There is a local theatre group that does some good plays, a few festivals (The Storytelling Festival, Arts and Eats, Freedom Fest, and a couple of Crafts festivals. It is also home to Morehead State University so when school is in session the population doubles. The town is surrounded by hills and The Daniel Boone National Forest…..very little flat land. There aren’t a lot of restaurants. Schools are pretty good and it is very safe. The population is mostly white and not very diverse. The people are very friendly. Opportunities for employment are somewhat limited with the University, St. Claire Hospital, and the Rowan County School system being the main employers. There are a couple of manufacturing facilities, a 60 acre greenhouse, a stave company, and a cooperage.
