Review of Windsor, Vermont

A sleepy little Vermont hamlet.......
Star Rating - 6/26/2007
Pros: A sleepy little Vermont town located off I-90. It's not far from Springfield, Vt, Claremont, NH or West Lebanon, NH where there is more shopping. The village has Lake Runnemede which is owned by the town (no building on this lake) with a walking trail around it. There is Mill Pond where one can fish and swim. The village has a grocery store, hardfware store, banks, Subway, Amtrack station, Cumberland Farms, Pizza and Chinese restaurants....

Cons: The manufacturing is long gone.Good jobs are scarce although there is a labor shortage. There is a home-grown wanna-be gang in the area called 'The 421s" who are heard more than seen and are little more than adolescent punks. The largest apartment complex in the village is 'Armory Square" owned by a slum-lord investment corporation out of Holyoke, MA (possibly the same one that owns Depot Square Apts in St Johnsbury) who rents out it's apartments to chapter 8 people imported from elsewhere. Thus it is not unusual to see folks wandering the streets of Windsor that look more like they belong in a Brooklyn or Boston than on the streets of a small New England hamlet.

This information is dated and an unfair current assessment as the "slum " property has been emptied of past "punk" residents and totally and thoughtfully renovated.
