Edgewater was one of THE up and coming neighborhoods in the denver metro area for a long time. throughout the 1970's, 80's and early to mid 90's, Edgewater was a pretty nice little area smack dab in the urban city. However, the neighborhood has changed a great deal from the late 90's to present day. Edgewater sits right on the border of Denver county and the nice white suburbia suburbs. I have lived in the west colfax neighborhood in denver for my earlier years and i lived in the edgewater neighborhood from 2006-2009. I have now moved to the villa park neighborhood. Edgewater has a crime rate of 67 incidents per 1,000 people, a lot higher than it was in the 90's and a lot higher than national averages. while living there, i can remember hearing frequent gun shots and sirens so often that it became an ordinary thing. yes, edgewater has some good things about it, but nevertheless it has its problems like an neighborhood in an urban city. property crime is an every single night thing. whether its larceny, vehicle theft, or grafitti all over every fence and all up and down the allies. its just part of living in an urban city. I personally like living urban. edgewater has the same characteristics of any neighborhood in denver county. gangs have been a problem but they are in every urban neighborhood, so its just something to deal with. so i personally like edgewater. its blue collar ethnic (mostly mexican american) and i enjoy it. its a low income neighborhood with like an average income of 39,000, but i enjoy most the people. its urbanization at its finest but i enjoy living in urban neighborhoods.
