Review of New Port Richey, Florida

West Pasco County Fl. a great place to live
Star Rating - 8/2/2010
West Pasco County Florida has so many of the things we look for when we home shop. Good schools, low crime rate, medical facilities, local shopping and convenient to Tampa, St Pete and Clearwater entertainment and restaurants. We have great museums and beaches nearby. Fishing, golf, and all forms of participant sports. Like professional sports? The Rays, Bucs, Lightening, Storm and the NY Yankees spring training facility.

I would have to agree with horrible place to live. I drove with my daughter down to my father in laws in Holiday because she wanted to look for teaching jobs there as there are more than up here in NY now I know why! The first time I went to Holiday was the year after my father in law moved into Holiday Lakes Estates. He had his house built next to his sisters on a corner lot and the area was beautiful. A lot of seniors with plenty of time to prune their lawns LOL. We even thought of moving there. Well we visited again in 1996 and it was still pretty nice so that is the way I remembered the area. I work for a company that has an office there and we were going to transfer there as well. Not now ! I'm staying put for the time being. Immediately when we got there in Pasco County I noticed the change and it wasn't for the better. A lot of homeless people and everything looked run down. Like the area's Golden Age left. It was dirty and crowded. The only thing I liked was the weather. My father in law is probably one of the only seniors left there in that neighborhood. My daughter says teaching in the schools is a nightmare and although she wasn't looking to make a fortune she said the pay stinks (she's in New Port Richey) its just above minimum and they treat them like garbage and most of the teachers she's met plan on leaving as soon as possible. We are going to pick my daughter up in 3 weeks she's leaving and coming back here. I think we will look elsewhere for warm weather. This is no longer a nice place to live.
