I moved to Newport from Fresno, CA back in the late l980's and wish I had come sooner. The air is clean and the small town atmosphere is great. I love seeing everything green instead of the brown of California. Like any place else, one has to spend some time here to appreciate the virtues. The winters might be brutal to some, but being able to get around town without facing traffic jams more than makes up for the rain. There are a number of fine restaurants if one takes the time to look. During the summer we get our share of "beach trash" like most coastal cities...homeless, druggies, thiefs. The local police do a good job of keeping the streets clean. I have had four children raised from kindergarten through high school and wouldn't live any where else if I had it to do over again.
