I lived here since 2014. It started off bad, got worse with trumps crazy a**. If you manage all this, you might understand the "gold mine"
Customer service is the worse in this town and I traveled, a lot, lived in many towns. This is the wannabe south, kind of like wannabe gangsters, sometimes they are worse, like the song said, "real gansters don't flex ***s cause they know they got em" =-P. So you got a lot of wanna be "south will rise again" folks being extra.
You can tell conservatives own businesses here because the staff reflects the management and management reflects owners. Just look at reviews, on any business lol. There was a new BBQ place recently opened and comments about owners,, yes owners, not wearing masks, but had "medical excuses" lol what no face shield then? Cant hire someone instead?
Frack burger had an owner I think he hustled old folks or something. Google it, there was something in the paper about it it a few years ago. Tuffys gave me monster cinnamon rolls hard like it was a few days old,, several times, have not been back since.
Five guys here is nothing like the other locations only went a handful of times but its pricy and needs to hold up to the hype.
Safeways Chinese food is boiling every time I walk by to see, not that its supposed to be super good, but damn. chicken jerky. I think this town loves some over dried meat.
Chinese restaurants serve crackers with their won ton?! LMAO most places are a hit or miss, sometimes it is fantastic, some days its as good as panda express but priced to be "fantastic".. which actually Panda Express is consistent lol. They do a good job for this town actually.
No one knows how to BBQ meat in this town Well maybe the new BBQ place does but the owners wanting to run around without masks and have excuses for it instead of trying to think of the community instead of their ego or wallet, well, they wont have me find out if they can BBQ.. my guess is unless I go in with sh*t kickers on and a trump hat ill get crap food anyway(or maybe out of chicken lmao KFC...ONE JOB!!) anyway, they wont see a dollar.. Glad that guy reviewed them and one of the owners tried to justify the other owners questionable actions verifying the review.
Fast Food here is terrible and im not saying fast food terrible, I am saying day old corner store should not be sold terrible. Jack in the box is so bad, I go to Kelso to get a burger when I crave jack in the box lol. McDonalds Popeyes knock off chicken sandwich is better than the KFC one here (they have one job!=-P) They also put in nasty day old chicken jerky in there BBQ beans(oh and they ran out of chicken a few times) lol one job...
Every grocery store has food a few days away from expiration or expired, sometimes moldy, have a complaint and they will argue like you are lucky to give them money.. go on a quest for donuts and in the summer hope you like fruit flies... To be fair., Safeway has improved the last few years(not their Chinese food), but they still have stuff a day or two away from expiration with nothing fresh to pick from. Sometimes folks want to buy for weekend, not have to cook that day.
if you are a minority, be ready to be watched, or put aside for the white person coming in behind you. Had a few experiences in Walmart on ocean beach with them watching me at checkout and checking my six packs for "stolen USBs" the guy said even though they are sold behind the smoke counter I think. Dude at the deli area has my order, and some white dude comes up and he passes me on to someone coming back from break to help the other guy, so im left waiting .. Told him that is some racist micro aggression BS and left. Had Home Depot dismiss us from buying a 1800 dollar riding lawn mower so she can finish her conversation with a coworker. We got the mower from Lowes lol
BK served burgers without the patties. That's not a mistake, I think they believe that old folks in this town wont complain or folks passing though cause we are a path to the coast,,, and the bacon on their jr bacon cheese burgers are two pieces the size of a nickel lol,,, so half of a half piece of bacon broken into two lol every time this happened.
Dairy Queen out of bananas several times, and melted blizzards(they rarely flip it like they do everywhere else)
there is a wannabe upper class restaurant by the DQ, cannot remember the name, I went in for a drink and they could not make it, they did not know how to make it lol.. I think it was a Long Island it was around the time I moved here, and the owner sat at the end of the bar and repeated several times "its not that kind of place" when I asked if anyone knew how to make it lol like it was supposed to be upscale with the owner sitting at the end on her butt, in jeans and t shirt not knowing how to deal with an order, and stripper pole on the bar lmao( I am still wondering what kind of place she was thinking)... I think it was a bank before they turned it into what every she was aiming for. Maybe I missed the KKK sign out front or something lol
Not a single business enforced masks that I visited since the pandemic. They had signs posted, but folks walked around with masks under their noses or not at all. Winco had employees without masks and management was cool with it when informed that it was happening. Applebees had a huge banner "inside dining" the same day the mandate was put out that there should not be any inside dining lol.
lets do driving lol Do not try to beat a red light they have the cameras up and lights flip fast if you go over 10MP over speed limit to beat the light. Now I am not defending speeding, but when you got a load you dont want to break for, you speed up a bit, and the lights pop fast if you do. Better to just run the red halfway through.. the cameras are from a place in Texas(yeah Texas =-P) last I read, and they got rid of a lot of the speed cams (not light cams) cause it caused some problems with the town or lawsuits or something, after it made millions of dollars off out of towners passing through. Drivers spend more time looking in their rearview to block others than they do watching traffic lol, that stuff in the big cities would spark some road rage for sure. Keep an eye out on the news, that is coming or probably has if you google this town lol.
When we first moved here, the city light company shut off our power cause previous Tennant did not pay bill, they tried to make us pay someone else's bill, but when we showed we just bought the house and previous owner is responsible, they did not turn it back on till end of day. The guy had no problem coming to shut it off and talk to me face to face in the morning and ignore we were new buyers, but waited till the end of day to get it back on. Pretty sure it was a racist thing. LOL watch our power gets shut off if they see this review.
This town is 55-60% problematic. There are some good folks here, but they are outnumbered by the ignorant cult members of the willfully ignorant right. The homeless problem is less of a problem than the housed conservatives. They will also try to blame minorities for problems but its white folks stealing from cars and yards in the middle of the night, not minorities(I dont call cops for theft, not gonna risk them murdering someone for a few bucks because they people too and watch Fox News too just like the idiots in this town). I got a few of them on video. Like the old awnry right wing wacko that stole my biden Harris sign off my front lawn lol. That old dude I would have turned into the cops, but he was just old and stupid, not hungry, I felt sorry for his starving brain cells.
There is so much more, I could do a full stand up routine on this town...
Ohh service master f*cked up my floor, they did a terrible job and the owner was the problem, not just the untrained employees. Do not hire them, you might end up paying way more to fix what they screw up in the long run.
Bottom line, is businesses have no problem blaming employees here to dodge accountability(such a conservative old school slaver mentality). I have known many businesses in my nomadic youth lol They did not have nearly as many bad employees, or made not so great ones decent. Managements sets the atmosphere, and most businesses here are set by conservatives that think YOU are lucky to give them money. I have never seen so many businesses with this much poor customer service in my life. I traveled too, even lived in another country and paid their taxes where they would not hire me at McDonalds or hotel cleaning toilets unless I spoke their language lol. This experience has been a trip, I love going back to Seattle and just eating out food trucks or even a 7/11 lol.. this town is so terrible. I have other family that moved here too, with their own experiences that are horrible in the schools, but that is not my place to share it. But my impression I got from what I was told is the schools and cops are racist af too.
Here is the kicker, The Untapped Gold Mine.. There are people that would love to, and will spend money on a good progressive business. If you got money to make a difference, do it PLEASE DO IT lol , this town wont stay this way for long.
We wanted to move for a while, but I am gonna stay and be a pain in the ass observer =-P. I live here now, this is my town too. But I am still looking for that progressive business that I can throw my money at. Also working towards opening my own "progressive" business, with BLM flags, rainbow flags and TYT on a huge flat screen =-P and a "reading is fundamental" plaque
to keep the real trouble out ;-/. Maybe a super deli with open mic poetry nite lol.
