Review of Lindale, Texas

Great Place for Family
Star Rating - 8/4/2008
Lindale is the smallest town I have ever lived in (Population sign says about 3,000, but we have more than that in our schools!), but also my favorite.

We moved here in 2000 with a 5- and 2-year old with an eye for small-town values and quality education. The kids do well in school, and the educational programs are excellent -- we currently have 250-300 kids per grade level. Academic excellence and athletic participation are encouraged constantly. The schools are known for placing regularly in State-wide academic contests (think UIL) and in sports: Football is king, but closely following are Soccer and Tennis. The High School Marching Band is called The Pride of Lindale and they are amazing. There are city leagues for Baseball and Soccer as well.

There isn't much to do here (yet), but the city has grown tremendously in the 8 years we've lived here -- our home has appreciated in value from $156,000 to $240,000 even with the decrease in home sales. Tyler is 10 miles away, and because Lindale sits on the north side of I-20, Dallas and Shreveport are about 90 minutes away in either direction. In recent years we have built WalMart, Lowes, and two major chain restaurants.

If church is your thing, there are many denominations to choose from, and they all have very active programs for all age groups.

I am happy to say that Lindale is overall a great place to raise a family, and am glad that I was able to bring mine up here.

Seven years after this original post I can say Lindale is pretty much still on the same track. The population within 5 miles all ways of downtown Lindale is now about 6k. The Schools are still the stand-out. We won the State Academic Championship three years in a row. Students who move here from places other than the South often find the schools too strict and move to Tyler. However, the strict dress code and discipline of Lindale schools is what makes them flourish. We have almost 25% minority enrollment in our schools. We never have any racial problems because all students are expected to follow the same rules. It is one of few places in Texas I have been where the coaching staff puts education first. You do not want to act right? we will win without ya! We now have over 30 restaurants in the area including every major chain.
