Review of Presco,

My view of Prescott
Star Rating - 1/25/2019
I lived in and outside the Prescott area since 1974 (basically since nine years of age). My grandparents reared me and they retired here.

I was away for schooling, but with my grandmother and my mother's failing health, I returned to be their caretakers; my grandmother died, my great-aunt and my mother as well. Over 20 years later, 2018 came and I finally decided, with most of my family now having passed away, it was long past time for me to leave. It was hard leaving my remaining family, friends and co-workers, but I needed a breath of fresh air and a change of scenery.

From my own personal experiences dealing with family medical care and end of life options:

Healthcare can be excellent, unless you only have Medicaid or Medicare, look into this prior to landing in Prescott.

Prescott has a really good VA Medical Center, it has been years since my grandfather passed away, but others I've heard feel they get decent care, my grandfather used the Prescott VA Center to help decide where to retire.

My grandmother was fortunate to be able to reside in the first assisted living complex in Prescott. She had great care and quality of life there as she progressed from independent living to assisted living. It was always her home and the staff was more like family.

Nursing homes, while expensive, are abundant in the area, look into which is your preference prior to have to use one as there can be differences in the quality of care at these facilities. My mother resided in a nursing home (of the same name as my grandmothers retirement apartment, which has since been renamed) for nearly twenty years and had excellent care.

Hospice services are excellent in the area as are other in-home health care services. My great-aunt remained in her home and used in-home care and later hospice services and was always comfortable to the day she died.

There is a great network of alternative medical providers in Prescott and have used them personally. On that note, this is a community that while it might be interested in alternative healing, Whole Foods failed and shuttered their store.

Whether you are in the working class or a retiree, Prescott is an extremely expensive place to live and if you have to work I strongly recommend you have the job you need prior to moving into the area. Often times, retirees realize their way of life necessitates changes in their lifestyle once they are living on their pensions or social security, so to this group I
