Review of Portland, Oregon

Negative Comments
Star Rating - 4/10/2012
I'm saddened to read the negative comments about P-Town. I currently live 16 miles south of San Francisco. At age 64, (age discrimination abounds here) I'm faced early retirment and relocating is inevitable. I've visited Portland several times, stayed downtown, attended the ballet, symphony, visited museums, parks and gardens etc. and was impressed. Portland's transportation was clean, safe, or at least during the day it was. And there were transit connections to the PDX airport.

I hate to say this, but there are many dishonest and unfriendly people "EVERYWHERE" especially since the economic downturn. Finding the right neighborhood to live in any city is key. The downside for me with Portland would be the number of cloudy days -- so if I did move there, finding an apartment (near downtown or Northwest) with good light exposure would be a must.

Jay, I agree with your comment -- but at my age, I doubt skiing would be be part of my agenda:). Living and thriving in any community depends on the individual. Sperling is a fairly good website that definitely gives the pros and cons of a specific area. For instance, there are are several other areas in the US that I'm familiar with and the comments posted are pretty much right on.

Yeah I have visit Portland Oregon before and I really like Portland and the state of Oregon and I also like Washington State too. Portland is a beautiful city because of beautiful parks and gardens. There are a lot of beautiful neighbrhoods with nice houses and some area are very affordable like Beaverton near Portland. There are some run down areas and bad areas but its not like in Houston Tx or Los Angeles area the areas are really bad worse than Portland. There a tons of stuff to do in Portland and near Portland and you can go skiing on Mt Hood and go camping near Mt Hood. Huge waterfall and its a beautiful waterfall about 30 miles east of Portland. Yeah a lot houses have big window and skyglass to let in a lot of lights. Late spring, summer and early fall the weather is really nice and comfortable and sunny most of the time. Winter is cloudy and wet but not always because I remember seeing some sunny days during winter. Don't listen to these negative comments because these people are negative people and the happy people are too busy having fun and enjoy life in Portland and don't even look at this website but there are some positive comments about Portland that I like reading.
