Review of Huntersville, North Carolina

Huntersville, NC
Star Rating - 4/11/2007
Huntersville is located in northern Mecklenburg county, and is directly north of Charlotte. The city borders the southern shores of Lake Norman. The population of Huntersville in 1990 was around 3,000 residents, today it surpasses 40,000 residents. The city is popular because of it being close to Charlotte but far enough away to be its own city. The growth has been phenomenal over the past few years (as with many NC towns and cities near Raleigh and Charlotte). The city completed a major shopping/residential area known as 'Birkdale Village' a few years ago. It is now the model of current and future development of the surrounding areas. Birkdale offers a small town feel inside a city complete with shops with condos on top, and a movie theatre. The city is now planning to annex several square miles to its east as the city feels the need to continue to expand to support its continued growth. The downside is the major traffic issues the city faces and the overdevelopment of former farmland into big box store parking lots.
