Review of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania

Nice Old Houses
Star Rating - 11/6/2010
After looking at several areas in the area around Pittsburgh, I finally decided on a nice little house in Beaver Falls.

Beaver Falls is about 35 miles north of Pittsburgh, in Beaver County. The main area of Beaver Falls is a nice little town with lots of older homes that are quite charming. There is also a main street with a lot of nice little shops and restaurants, and also some chain stores and fast food places. And there are a lot of churches of many different denominations.

You can find almost any size or style of home to suit your needs here. There are a lot of smaller homes with two bedrooms and one bathroom for smaller families and as starter or retirement homes. Many of the larger homes have four bedrooms and two or more baths. Styles of homes are mostly older homes of two or more levels with basements. Some of the homes are Victorian or Queen Anne era. A lot of homes here from the turn of the last century. Most of these older homes were built to last and are still strong and solid. Also, housing prices are very affordable, although utilities seem a bit on the high side. Taxes are reasonable and there is a tax relief deduction available for those who qualify.

The streets are cleaned weekly throughout most of the year, and trash and recyclables are also collected weekly.

There are some very nice neighborhoods around the main part of town. The area of Chippewa is quite modern with semi-rural and rural areas also, and all the big box stores are there. A little to the north of the main area of Beaver Falls is the College Hill area, which is adjacent to Geneva College. Patterson Township, White Township and West Mayfield are other nice areas.

Beaver Falls has a really great school system with a teacher to student ratio of about 14 students to 1 teacher. The town also spends a little on education per student than the state average. The schools are well maintained and there are many activities for students of all ages.

Beaver Falls has a bus link to Pittsburgh. There are two major highways with exits in the town. Local county and state roads are all maintained in good condition. There is a small airport in the Chippewa area of Beaver Falls, and Pittsburgh International Airport is only about 40 minutes away.

Over all, the people seem out-going and friendly. There is a good mixture of ethnic backgrounds and cultures here. Neighbors say hello and business people treat customers with respect. Just like any other place these days, there is some crime. However, the police are always on patrol and with common sense precautions, you can feel safe.

I moved to Beaver Falls from central New Jersey so that I could retire and still afford to own my own home. My cute little two bedroom, one bath home is just right for me and my husband and our pets. We are Beaver Falls fans!
