I moved to Delta from the Minneapolis area after college in 1997. I guess I was a lucky one...I had a decent paying job lined-up before I moved. My job allowed me to explore the entire western slope...but concentrated on the seven county area. I lived in Delta for close to five years and loved it and now miss it a little...I live in downtown Denver now and have for the last 7 years. Sure, I literally make 4 times now what I did on the West Slope, but I also never get to enjoy the incredible sunsets over the uncompahgre plateau and going for a bike ride on (some of the best) single track and never seeing anyone else. I was in my early 20s then and was able to live simply...natives thought it odd that I wasn't married with kids yet...it is a very "old-fashioned" mentality, but that was changing with the influx of new people moving to the area. I still visit the area, but most of my friends have since moved on...like me.
