Review of Greeley, Colorado

Great restaurants, decent college, and bigoted ppl
Star Rating - 7/16/2020
I lived in Greeley, CO during my undergraduate for 4 years. I recently moved to go receive my graduate degree elsewhere. However, there are so many ups and downs of this place.
Pros:
-Amazing local places for food. The customer service tends to be amazing at any of these places. Right Coast, Romas, Patricks, Luna's, Tasty Kitchen, and so on.
-Customer service at most retailers and shops tend to be very good.
-Theres a good amount of polite people who live and let live.
-The police tend to be nice and are understanding.
-Has a good hospital and health care system.
-Lot of community events.
-Equal distance from Denver and Cheyenne.
Cons:
-Not fully related to Greeley, but as they are the county seat.
-Sheriff Reams is the worst and most disrespectful sheriff to ever exist. He belongs in some homophobic, racist, sexist town pass the Mason Dixon Line. He refuses to enforce laws that the Governor enforces for GOOD REASONS. He's a prime example of why many want to reallocate where funding belongs, and why the police should be "Defunded". He of course can't get voted out as no one will go against him. Hope someone does. He should be ashamed of how he acts.
-A good chunk of the population have bigots who treat others like absolute garbage. Gay? Well, expect to be told you should be fired from your job! So on so forth. A good chunk of the people believe that they deserve to decide what the state should be like and how their policies should be.
-They treat anyone from any other state, like garbage. Came here for college, got verbally attacked for being from out of state. They'll also blame everything on you.
-The cost of rent is astronomical.

We're Cuban Americans, who moved here from the communist city of Seattle. Grew up in Miami in the Barrio. Comments like the above comment are typical of liberal thinking. I doubt the poster, if he had a film crew follow him to his work, could back up his comment of if you're gay, people telling him, he should be fired. Sure buddy!!!! I would rather live in a conservative city, where conservatives are true live and live let live as opposed to a liberal city like Seattle, where you are told what you can say, think and how you should vote, otherwise you will truly be cancelled or lose your job, for saying the wrong things politically, which by the way are protected free speech under our Constitution. Perhaps you're the elitist ethnocentric bigot who just reads too much into what people think or feel about you based on your ethnicity or orientation. I as a Latina whose parents immigrated to this country from Cuba, Bi-lingual etc., have been treated very well in Greeley. People are polite and friendly, much more so than in Seattle or my hometown of Miami (blame the New Yorkers for the rudeness in Miami, and some of us Cuban/Americans too). There are some people with a southern country twang here, but have always been respectful, polite and friendly, never treated me differently. Are they different than me, yes, in some ways, but that's what makes America great and in the end we are all human beings. Do you truly believe in inclusion, James, apparently not, based on your ignorant comments. Perhaps you should focus more on accepting differences among people, including yourself, and less on being an imagined victim. I know what bigots are, and they hide behind the cloak of being a liberal, and pretend they are the most open minded, inclusive people on Earth, when in actuality, they are the most elitist closed minded people themselves. We witnessed it over and over again in Seattle, and you obviously fit that description, when you carte blanche just call a whole city of people bigotted and homophobes, well closed minded people like you are just part of the problem and not the solution. Hopefully, when you're getting your Master's, in some utopia, they have a course on acceptance and inclusion, which your post was anything but, however quite divisive. Congratulations!!!!! If you're looking for cities that are in the process of defunding their police, Seattle and Portland are waiting for you. Good Luck, and let us all know how it is working out for you in a year or two. Meanwhile, I'll be living in Greeley, Colorado, happy in the fact, that there is one less close minded elitist like you living here. Now onto my assessment of Greeley, Colorado so far. There are a fair amount of Latino's, that live in Greeley, Blue Collar Workers, Ranchers, Farmers that live on the fringes, and then some of the elitist college kids who haven't lived in the real world yet to understand reality. Typical college kids, party, hold a protest at the Meat Packing plant, have all of their little catch phrase stickers on the back of their Subaru or Prius "Co-Exist," "Keep Cool and Chive On," and all of the other cliche stickers. You know the ones. Overall, people are very friendly and down to earth, Country, Latino American, First generation Latinos, College Kids, Blue Collar Workers. A John Cougar Mellencamp "Jack & Diane," kind of town, with a twist and a twang. I love it!!!!!!!! There are some run down areas, and newer areas in town. It has all of the conveniences and stores, the Mall is almost a ghost town though, as many malls in the U.S. are these days. There are nice views of the mountains where we live. Agriculture on the fringes of town. Some smell of cow dung in some areas of town, I assume from the meat packing plant. Greeley is real, not fake, phony, polished, just a typical American agricultural, hard working, blue collar town, with a small not well known college, a town that is growing. There are people we have run into from other areas of the country, Florida, California etc. that moved here, not too many though, other than the college kids. It is a comfortable driving distance from the Denver Metro area. There aren't a lot of trees, but rain and riots are in short supply here, perfect, that's why we left Seattle, to get away from the rain, riots and failed policies from delusional politicians. Greeley to me is like an uncut, unpolished diamond, a little rough around the edges, rugged and beautiful to look at. It's all perspective, my friend, James. If you ever want to sit down for a nice cup of Cuban Coffee and Pastalitos, and discuss going somewhere like Miami to my Barrio, or perhaps Little Haiti, Calle Ocho (Little Havana), or perhaps Opa Locka (aka Choppa Locka and for good reason) we can set you up in a nice house with a view to the chaos, or perhaps Seattle is more your speed. I personally don't know if you are Latino, but you said you implied you are gay and were discriminated against in Greeley. Believe me, in most neighborhoods in Miami, if you are white, or other than the dominant ethnicity in the various ethnic enclaves in Miami, you would feel very uncomfortable and get sideways looks, and possibly more. You could live in any one of these places, then go back to your utopia in Albuquerque and sigh, it was all just a dream Toto.......it was all just a bad dream Toto.......we're back safe and sound in Albuquerque.......Take my word for it, you wouldn't be able to survive the streets of Miami, know how to hustle, know how to work a thankless blue collar job to get ahead and appreciate the American dream. Perhaps you should stick to your academics and keep your divisive comments to yourself. I LOVE GREELEY!!!!!!
