Frisco-Dillon is COLD/Doggy Place

I've lived in the Frisco-Dillon area for almost a year. It's a great area obviously for skiing, hiking, and biking. The scenery is gorgeous, the Summers mild, but the Winters can be pretty cold. That all said, you should know that many of the people here are not all that friendly, and many are barely polite. That may be OK if you "shop" only at gas stations, but when you're a "regular" at coffee shops, clothing stores, restaurants, and grocery stores, I expected a little more courtesy. I think this "coldness" may be due to many of the stores servicing tourists who are not repeat customers so they don't feel like they need to be very nice. Also, unfortunately, I've come to realize that many of the people live here because they love the outdoors, not because of their job. Sadly, these people are in customer-facing jobs, but don't really care about their job or their customers they supposedly service (they just want the money so they can live here). Consequently, "locals" like me don't appreciate such attitudes and shop in Denver. There are some noted exceptions of course, and those are the very few local businesses I still return to. One other thing, this area is "Dog World"! Many stores (banks, too!) allow dogs, and often dog owners use a 12-foot leash or no leash at all. This means you're libel to have dogs jump on you, sniff your private parts, slobber on you, or otherwise get in your way wherever you go. (BTW--I like dogs--just not owners who don't control their dogs.) I've been forced to carry defensive items with me at all times, especially when I walk/hike. And, don't expect the police to do much of anything. Even when there is posted leash laws, they don't really enforce them (based on personal experience). If you can get past all the negative above, like I said, this is a very beautiful place. But it's getting more and more crowded here (all that Denver and tourist traffic), and the negatives are getting more and more intolerable. I'd rather live in a place where people are not just (barely) polite, but friendly too, and where I don't have to worry about some misbehaved dog around every corner. Perhaps if I live here 10 years, people will "warm" up and/or I'll get used to all the dogs. Just not sure, I'm willing to wait that long.
