Review of Oxnard, California

Last Affordable SoCal Beach Town
Star Rating - 8/16/2020
My wife and I have lived here for about 15 years. We met here, dated here and got married here. Now we have a couple kids here. Things were a bit nuts during the days of stated income and people buying $750k houses they couldn’t afford making $15/hr and then ultimately losing their homes and the housing market crashed. But, those days are gone.

Some folks rip on the city management for increasing water fees. It was needed. Our infrastructure was dated and it doesn’t fix itself. Some rip on city planning. I say, are you kidding me? Oxnard has done a fantastic job of taking an old beet farming and navy base town and turning it into a more lively beach community. This first kicked off in the late 90,s through today. If you’re a retiree, we literally have every grocery store from Whole Foods to the Farmers Markets to Costco. And our farmers markets have fresh fish off the seafood catching boats coming into the harbor to fresh honey from the Fillmore hives.

We have the Newer style all in one home communities where you can walk to all of the great restaurants, comedy club, grocery stores, retail and movies etc. at the newer River Park Community. We love taking our kids and dog to lazy dog so our furry son can enjoy a bowl of water and doggy chicken while we eat. Complete with Tesla charging stations of course. We have a state of the art, still being expanded hospital, every specialist doctor you can think of in throwing distance, from heart surgeon to radiologists.

We have torn down an old blight formerly known as wagon wheel and turned it into nice townhomes and condos. A lot of the strawberry fields crammed in between housing communities have been revamped into open green spaces and Kiddie Parks along with more nice suburban homes and we are about to break ground on another state of the art highschool on rose. Something like a $200 million compound. We also just ran 38 miles of fiber to provide gigabit internet and are looking to revamp the airport. City management is also focusing on building out the community to attract higher earning jobs and businesses so your kids can land these jobs and afford to live in the community as they graduate highschool/college and enter the workforce.

Some people talk down about Oxnard. As there is some lower income folks in the farming community side of Oxnard. But these are hard working good people. And they are creating generational wealth as their homes are now valued between $350-$500k. I’m friends with some folks who grew up in these areas. One is a 2nd grade teacher, another is a postmaster and another works in management at Ventura college. All great people who came up from solid hard working blue collar families with strong values.

OVERALL, Oxnard is one of the Best Places to live in not just California, but the country. Consistently in the Top Ten for LOWEST crime per capita, a beach community, with wonderful weather and affordable housing.
