I don't know what ticked Jim off about Meeteetse, but he's not very accurate - or fair - in his criticism. Some of the statistics are skewed by the small size of the town (350 in Meeteetse compared to Powell's 5400). Meeteetse is much closer to average in housing costs, income and other areas, but the statistics are inflated by some of larger, wealthier ranchers living in the area. There are more houses valued at $200,000 and under (93.6%) in Meeteetse than in most other towns in Park County (including Powell, at 91.3%). Crime is much lower in Meeteetse than Powell or Cody. Meeteetse has a lot of great things that other towns under 500 people don't have - a nice library, visitor center, two museums, parks, cafes, motels, campground and shops. In addition to those, we have great outdoor winter sports including skiing, hiking, hunting and more - and sitting an an old-fashioned western bar if you like that. It's true that we don't a grocery store or dozens of restaurants. What we do have is a small, historic, terrific, real western town that isn't that expensive to either visit or live in. Bring your regular wallet, because it will do just fine - no matter what Jim says. And the rich transplants? There ARE some coming in - but a lot fewer in Meeteetse than in Powell, Cody and a lot of the other towns in northwestern Wyoming.
