Review of Plainwell, Michigan

Small town America, good schools, close to everyth
Star Rating - 10/1/2010
Plainwell is just off US131 about 10 minutes north of Kalamazoo (pop 71,000) and 20 minutes south of Grand Rapids. Nice "class B" school with a high percentage going on to college. Large Paper Mill site near city center is undergoing redevelopment and city is seeking new businesses as a result, rather than "rolling out the red tape". Stretch of developed 5 lane state road between Plainwell and sister city Otsego is well developed with big box stores, restaurants, dealerships, but both cities maintain an active "downtown" commerce as well. Local festivals throughout spring and summer downtown. Only 45 minutes from Lake Michigan for weekend day trips, several small lakes nearby, two ski resorts in the winter and one of the nicest 1/4 mile dragways and 5/8 asphalt oval tracks in the midwest are all less than 5 minutes away to enjoy. Very little crime (almost none), friendly neighbors, and "city life" not far away.
