Nice place to visit, expensive place to live

It was a great place to grow up in the 70s. However, it has become very expensive. Natural beauty abounds. Reasonable drives to get to Carmel or down the coast to Big Sur. Most of the people I know who have stayed in the area either had family money or live frugally. Most people are house poor. Low key, quiet setting. Good restaurants but not much night life.
